Age 95, of Janesville, formerly of Monticello, died Monday, May 19, 2025 at Oak Park Place in Janesville. Henry was born on October 11, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant Township, Green County, the son of Gottfried and Johanna (Wiedmer) Waelchli. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1947 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the U.S. Air Force from August, 1948 until his honorable discharge in August, 1952. Henry and Darlene S. Walden were united in marriage on November 24, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa. Henry farmed on the Waelchli home farm for many years while working over 25 years for General Motors before retiring in 1988. He was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. Henry was a hardworking, dependable, quiet man who loved farming.  He had a green thumb which was evident in his flourishing flower and vegetable gardens.

Henry is survived by his wife of 70 years, Darlene Waelchli of Janesville; their children, James (Mary) Waelchli of Kronenwetter, WI, David (Linda) Waelchli of Janesville, Mary Jo (Andrew Leu) Waelchli of Mclean, VA; daughter-in-law, Melanie Waelchli of OK; seven grandchildren, Sara, Jennifer, Jamie, Christopher, Robert, Genevieve, Joseph; six great grandchildren, Ethan, Calli, Landon, Ole, Emma, August; and sisters-in-law, Gertrude Waelchli of Monticello, Marjorie Waelchli of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard; granddaughter, Stephanie; brothers, William and John; sisters, Rose Jaeger, Mary Waelchli, and twin sister, Johanna Stuckey.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are suggested in Henry’s name to Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of one’s choice.
