A caring mother and wonderful grandmother. Helen Mae (Martin) Morgan, age 87, formerly of Browntown, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 at Divine Rehab and Nursing Center in Lodi, WI where she had resided for the past few years. Helen was born on October 7, 1931 in Monroeville, Ohio, to Henry and Rosalia (Hosang) Martin. She attended Monroeville High School. While waitressing at the local truck stop, Helen met the love of her life, Delmar Morgan, and the couple were married on May 16, 1953. Helen and Delmar moved throughout the Midwest as they had children born in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Illinois. They began their farm life in 1958, living on farms in Illinois and Wisconsin. Helen also worked as a surgical environmentalist at St. Clare Hospital from 1971 until retiring in 1994. While raising her seven children, farming, and being employed outside the home, Helen was no stranger to hard work. When asked how she did it all, Helen always replied “Well I’m a tough old German.” Helen loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, square dancing, bowling, playing cards, and many other physical activities. Her children will always remember Helen for her dedication to serving her family. It was never about her.
She is survived by five of her children, Leslie (Barb) Morgan of Monroe, Linda (Keith) McGuire of Bolingbrook, IL, Cynthia (Eric) Otteson of Poynette, Kathleen Morgan of St. Paul, MN, and Christine Morgan of Beloit; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Delmar, on May 27, 2015; two daughters, Beppe Morgan in 1982 and Sandra Morgan in 2017; granddaughter, Ashley Krupke in 1986; two sisters, Edith Green and Corrine Criswell and her brother, Alfred Martin.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at the Browntown Community Center with Pastor Steve Owen of the Liberty Baptist Church, Monroe, officiating. A luncheon will be served following the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be used for resident enrichment at the Divine Rehab and Nursing Center.
