Helen C. Schmid

Helen C. Schmid, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. She was born on July 27, 1925, in Mukwonago, WI, the daughter of Arthur and Celeste (Mundschau) McAdams. On September 13 1945, Helen married Ken Schmid. They lived their whole life in and around Monroe through 2017, when they entered memory care at Brookdale Middleton Stonefield.

Helen is survived by her children, Beverly, Conrad (Nancy), Paul (Linda) and Peg (Erwin Bauer) Lyon; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Dudzik, Ron (Stacy), Eric (Brittany), and Brandon; great grandchildren, Emma, Grayson, Caden, Maryn, Kenley and Cooper; many nieces and nephews; and friends.

Helen's most loved role in her life was being a mom, and she was the best ever. She also had many close friends throughout her life, with whom she shared many close and fun times. She had a very green thumb, and created many beautiful gardens at their homes around Monroe and in Florida. And you could often hear her whistling, whether at home or entertaining a crowd at Cheese Days.

Helen and her husband Ken of 74 years, also loved to travel. While traveling Mom would write detailed journals of their trips. In addition, they took a lot of pictures. You can almost feel like you are with them as you read the journals and look at the pictures. Their first trip took them to Florida in the early 1960’s. They almost had to turn around and come home as Mom was missing her family. Fortunately, they did not turn around and their travels continued. Over the years their travels included cruises, trips to Hawaii, much of Europe, Central America and other sites. Their most enjoyed trips were two trips to Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, on December 23, 2019; son Ronald in Vietnam, infant daughter, Theresa; son-in-law, Michael Lyon; brothers, John, Jerry, and Al; sisters Lorraine, Marion, and Joyce.

No services will be held at this time. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family is sincerely grateful for the care and kindness given to Helen by the staff of Brookdale Middleton Stonefield and Agrace HospiceCare
