Hattie Clark

Hattie Clark, age 98 of Monroe, WI formerly of Woodford, WI passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at SSM Health – Monroe in Monroe, WI. She was born December 29, 1924, in Winslow, IL, the daughter of Karl and Martha (Streiff) Knutti. Hattie was united in marriage to Virgil Clark on June 30, 1945, at Wiota Lutheran Church in Wiota, WI. She lived and farmed with her husband in the Woodford area. She held several jobs after her farming her life –homemaker, babysitter for many of the children around Woodford, Meat Cutter at Templeton’s Market, and helped in the kitchen at Lelle’s Bar.

She loved to garden, can vegetables, and bake.  She was a great cook, but no one could top her delicious pies, which started with her amazing pie crusts, and the awesome cookies that she loved to bake. Hattie had a love for baseball, especially the Milwaukee Brewers and would watch or listen to as many games as she could. She loved her family and greatly enjoyed it when family and friends came to visit her.  She was also known to enjoy a good polka, a yodel or two, and a few beers with her family & friends.  In fact, at the very end, she was sure a beer would cure her.

Hattie and Virgil had no children but were especially close to Nieces, Mary Ann Broge, and Nancy Boeck (deceased), who were more like her kids than Nieces.  In turn, MaryAnn’s kids, Teresa (Ric) Joranlien and Todd (Kimber) Broge were more like her grandkids.  She’s also survived by many other nieces and nephews, and their kids who loved her dearly, as well as special friends: Jimmy, Tara, Brianna, and Brady Hagen who were also like her grandkids, as well as Bev and Rich Lelle.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil, five brothers: Ralph, Walter, Benjamin, Clarence and Karl Jr.  and four sisters: Marguerite Blasing, Viola Albrecht, Gladys Marks, and Clara (Tootie Lincicum), and longtime friend and caregiver, Shirley Long.
