Hans A. Sulzer

Hans A. Sulzer, age 91, of rural Monroe, passed away peacefully at home on November 21st. He was born on Nov. 8, 1931 and was the only child of immigrants Alfred Sulzer and Johanna Egger Sulzer both from Meiringen, Switzerland. His father was a cheesemaker and mother a homemaker.

 

He attended Monroe High School and was class president his senior year in 1949. Hans attended UW Madison before enlisting in the Air Force during the Korean War. He taught flight instrumentation and attained the rank of staff sergeant at Chanute AFB (Rantoul, IL).

 

On Jan 2, 1953, he and Kathleen Feldt were married at St. John’s UCC in Monroe. He farmed with his in-laws Ben and Wallace Feldt at the very center of Green County.

 

Hans was a member of Zwingli UCC, the Monticello Historical Society, Yesteryear Car Club, American Truck Historical Society and member of the Mt. Pleasant Township Planning Committee. His prized possession was his burnt orange 1973 Chevy pickup. He enjoyed traveling to visit his cousins in Switzerland and road trips with his children.

 

He is survived by his wife Kathleen and his four children: Mary (Steve) Puntillo, Michael Sulzer, Jane (Eric) Skelton and Jim (Denise) Sulzer. Grandchildren: Nicole, Sarah, Paul, Mark, and Jakob. Great grandchildren: Remiee and Joseph.

 

A memorial service will be held on January 6th, 2023 at Zwingli UCC in Monticello at 2pm. Visitation will start at 12:30pm. A dessert reception will follow the service. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
