Gloria Ann Hammel, age 75, of Monroe, peacefully passed away at the Monroe Hospice Home, on July 12, 2024.
Gloria was born November 21, 1948 in Freeport, IL, to Harry and Paula (Howarth) Ehrler. Gloria graduated from Elizabeth, IL High School in 1967. She was united in marriage to Stephen Hammel on September 23, 1978. Following her marriage, Gloria operated a Home Day Care for 15 years, worked as a waitress, and was employed in food service for many years before retiring from Culver’s in New Glarus.
Gloria’s family and friends were extremely important to her and she was well known for always doing special things for loved ones on their birthdays and holidays. Gloria loved meeting friends for coffee, attending movies, dining out, spending time with her kids and grandkids and accompanying them to Disney World. Gloria also had a true love for dogs and the family was never without at least one, if not two, dogs. She was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Monroe.
Gloria is survived by and will be dearly missed by her husband of 45 years, Stephen Hammel; sons, Michael (Tracy) Hammel, Christian (Jackie) Hammel; daughter, Georgeanne (Joe) Oft, grandchildren, Zachary Hammel, Connor & Madison Oft, Grayson Wesenberg, Lillian Hammel; her brother, Brian (Tanya) Ehrler; nephews, David Ehler, Troy Ehrler; and her beloved dogs, Butterscotch and Ruby.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Steven Erhler; and parents-in-law, Merlin & Jean Hammel.
Gloria’s life will be celebrated with a visitation for friends and family on Sunday, July 21st, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe. A private funeral will follow on Monday, July 22, with Pastor Andrew Ewings officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Gloria’s name to SSM Hospice Home, Green County Humane Society, or Resurrection Lutheran Church Sunday School, Monroe.
