Gladys M. Steiner, age 101 of Monroe passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Aster Assisted Living. She was born on August 16, 1919, the daughter of Thomas and Emma (Freitag) Steiner in Monroe, WI. She graduated from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN in 1953. She worked as a Lab Tech in Green Castle, IN. From there she was employed at Public Health Hospital in Chicago, IL. She then moved to Long Beach, California where she was employed by Veterans Administration Hospital as a General Medical Technician from 1962 to 1977 when she retired and returned to Monroe in 1979.
Gladys loved her family, nieces, nephews and was God Mother to many. She loved to spoil each and every one of them. Her pleasures were baking cooking, bowling, swimming, outdoor activities, playing cards, Country Music & Shows until her health made it impossible. Her main hobby was collecting recipe books. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Hannah Circle and Homemakers.
Memories of Gladys (known as Aunt Mick) will live on in the hearts of many. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Pat (Rich) Budsberg, Richard (Laurie) Steiner, Doran (Fern) Steiner, David Steiner, Donald (Donna) Steiner, Marley Lindsey, Barb Ziltner, Judy (Randy) Miller, Jeff (Marie) Wunschel, all of Monroe. She is further survived by 20 Great Nieces and Nephews and many Great-Great Nieces and Nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Sister Marian (Chub) Wehinger, Brother Clarence Steiner, Sister Selma Wunschel, Brother-in-law Vic Wehinger, Sister-in-law Norma Steiner and Brother-in-law Wendel (Pete) Wunschel.
As per her wishes no formal funeral services will be held. Shriner Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. A memorial fund has been established.
