Freeman D. Hanson, age 88 of Monroe, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at his home. He was born on February 17, 1930 in Argyle, the son of Jesse and Alma (Olson) Hanson. He graduated from Argyle High School. Freeman married Irene E. Johnson on January 17, 1953 in Argyle. Freeman started out his life farming and running a portable feed mill; later he went to work for the city of Monroe street department, where he served as supervisor and worked for the city for 20 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed dancing and camping and was a handyman for anyone seeking help.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Monroe; 4 children: Dave Hanson of Monroe, Sue (Brian) Hoffmaster of Monticello, Jeff Hanson of Knoxville, TN, and Sara (William) Ritschard of Monroe; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Larry Hanson and Ronald Hanson in infancy; grandson, Joshua Kruse; 2 sisters: Hazel Flanery and Sonja Hanson; 6 brothers: Jessie Jr., Richard, Roger, Olgar, Stanley and Francis.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 12, 2018 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE funeral home, with Chaplain Sue Hall officiating. Burial will be in Apple Grove Cemetery in Argyle, at a later date. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 12th, from 11:00 am until the time of service, at the funeral home.
