Frances “Fran” Schmid, age 80, of Monroe passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at The Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. She was born the daughter of Reina and Clara (Graper) Rick on March 5, 1938 in Coloma, Wisconsin. Fran was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” L. Schmid on April 7, 1956 in Brodhead. She attended Brodhead Schools. She had been a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe
Fran worked as a nurse’s aide in the labor and delivery unit at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe. She was also proud to have been a teacher’s aide at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. She and Hank later purchased the Monroe Mack Service Center in 1975, where Fran served as Vice President and secretary. Fran worked alongside her husband for many years. Together they also loved to travel, having seen most of the 48 continental United States by motorcycle; they also drove to Alaska and visited Hawaii. They also ventured to Europe, visiting Monaco, French Riviera, and later went back to see Switzerland. Fran also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her lawn, she was passionate about decorating for the holidays and always had a spectacular light display for Christmas.
Family was always most important to her, she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson, Devin.
Fran is survived by her husband of 63 years, Hank of Monroe; sons, Steve (Rhonda) Schmid of Orangeville and Dean Schmid of Browntown; grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, and Ethan Schmid; great-grandson, Devin; her aunt, Evelyn Henke; and sister-in-law, Colleen Rick of Janesville. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordan Rick; granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Schmid; niece, Brenda Normington; and her other love, Kiki, her cat.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, February 1, 2019 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 4:00-7:00PM at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Fran’s memory.
