Elton F. Segner, age 94, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. Elton was born the son of John and Maggie (Hale) Segner on September 11, 1924 in Lafayette County. He was united in marriage to Darlyne W. Ritschard on November 18, 1945 at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. He had been a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe.
Elton, along with his family, farmed in Winslow, Browntown, and Monticello before he and Darlyne purchased their farm in 1966, located between Monroe and Juda. After selling the farm in 1975 he worked at Pleasant View Nursing Home for nearly 15 years doing maintenance and grounds-keeping. Elton was also a very sought after ‘handyman’ in the Monroe area, doing various jobs for many local residents.
Elton is survived by his wife of 73 years, Darlyne; his children, Wayne (Laurie) Segner, Lori (Dan) Klemm, and Heidi (Rob) Treuthardt; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Segner; and two sons-in-law, Richard Gruenewald and Wes Winters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Nancy Gruenewald and Cathy Winters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, December
31, 2018 at SHRINER- HAGER- GOHLKE Funeral Home with Rev. Kathleen Rinear
officiating. Burial will follow service in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will
be held from 10:00AM until the time of service at the funeral home. A Memorial
Fund is being established in Elton’s name. Condolences may be sent to the
