Elmer Mack Montgomery

Elmer Mack Montgomery was born on March 19, 1925 in his family home in Canton, Ohio.  He was the eighth of nine children born to James Marion and Edith Olinda (Campbell) Montgomery.  He died January 9, 2024 at age 98 in Monroe, Wisconsin, surrounded by his family. 

After graduating from Timken High School in 1943, Elmer enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he was trained as a pilot.  He attended Ohio State University and earned a BS degree in mechanical engineering.  His career was mainly in the area of gravure printing.  He also dabbled in various entrepreneurial endeavors. 

He married the love of his life, Ethel Ann Davis, on March 19, 1954. Elmer and Ethel soon moved to Glen Ellyn, IL where he built their house and they raised their family. 

Elmer never found anything he couldn’t fix.  He was always helping family, friends, and neighbors with various repairs.  He enjoyed hunting pheasant, golfing, playing cards with family and friends, and traveling.

Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel; and his son, Kevin. He is survived and beloved by his daughter, Terrie (Dennis) Hammer; daughter, Kim (Rick) Ramos; son,Todd (Terri) Montgomery; and daughter, Heather (Mark) Schmit. He is loved and remembered by his grandchildren, Rachel (Derek) Bintz and Ryan (Bethany) Hammer, Evan (Sarah), Blake (Christine), Tyler, and Jesse Ramos, Samantha (Tim) Lucas, Amanda (Mark) Fields, Alyssa (Kris) Eberle, Dominick (Katy) and Trevor Schmit; as well as his 18 great grandchildren.

A private burial service will be held on March 18, 2024 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
