Elizabeth R. “Betty” Wichelt

Elizabeth R. “Betty” Wichelt, age 92 of Monroe, died Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Betty was born on August 3, 1926 in Jefferson Township, the daughter of Fred and Elsa (Stettler) Kueng. She was raised on a farm south of Juda, attended Pleasant Grove Country School, and graduated from Juda High School in 1943. She had numerous jobs including farming, waitressing at the Corner Café, and helping in the Monroe High School cafeteria before retiring in 1991.

Betty married Ervin Moellenberndt in 1946 and was united in marriage to Kenneth Wichelt in 1974. She was a member of the Oakley Union United Methodist Church where she served as the church organist for many years. She was currently was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the piano, singing, gardening, tending to her flowers, and attending church functions.

She is survived by a son, Michael (Karen) Moellenberndt of Monroe; a step-son, LaVerne Wichelt of Beloit; two grandchildren, Brad (April) Moellenberndt, Patti (Tony) Wilhite, four step-grandchildren, Nicole Stephenson (Mark), Shawna March (David), Kelly Hendrickson (Mike), and Todd Pulver (Angie); and ten greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Emil Scheisser; husband, Kenneth, in 2001; a sister, Margaret (Ernie) Lehmann; and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Don Kim and Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt will officiate with burial in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
