Donna J. Elmer, age 84, of Monroe, died on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at her home. She was born on November 1, 1936 in Sycamore, IL., the daughter of Carl and Grayce (Bodeen) Sundly. Donna was a 1954 graduate of Rockford West High School.
Donna worked at a bank in Rockford until she married Dwight Elmer in 1957. After they married Donna farmed with her husband until 1988. She also worked at Pace Setter Shoe in Monroe for a few years and at the New Glarus Foods from 1993 to 2001 until she retired.
She was a member of the Jordan Lutheran Church where she served as Deacon and taught Sunday School. She also was a member of Jordan Busy Bees Homemakers, Jordan Woman’s Guild and loved to help sew quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She also enjoyed gardening, going to country concerts with her daughter, traveling, going to garage sales, playing cards with her card club friends, and loved listening to accordion music which she also played. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching figure skating.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Elmer of Monroe, brothers, Jerry (Doris) Sundly Rio Vista, CA, Jim Sundly of Loves Park, IL, Ann Moctezuma of Rockford, IL., sister-in-law, Diana and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Grayce and Carl, husband, Dwight, sister, Carlyce. brothers-in-law Jaime Moctezuma and Gordon Prien.
Private family funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Lutheran Cemetery
