Donald Arthur “Donnie” Collins

Donald Arthur “Donnie” Collins, age 83 of Argyle, WI, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Monroe Health Center in Monroe, WI. He was born April 17, 1935 the son of Glen and Mabel Collins. Although handicapped by a speech impediment and later essential tremor, he was a friend to all he met, especially children. Donnie never married but was a hard-working farmer alongside his father until 1978, when they sold their Woodford farm and retired to Argyle. After his father’s passing in 1984, Glen’s caregiver, Darlyne Bernet, graciously facilitated Donnie’s move to Lafayette Apartments and assisted as needed over the years. He soon established a lawn mower and snow blowing business, which gave him purpose in life. His brother’s lot and garages offered his equipment protection and a place to call his own while using them. Donnie was proud of his lawn tractors and thoroughly enjoyed his work until a stroke retired him to Monroe Manor in 2007.

Donnie is survived by one brother: Marvin (Gloria) Collins of Pueblo, CO; two sisters: Dorothy (Orville) Swanson of Murray, KY, and Marjorie (Alvin Sr.) Klentz of Leaf River, IL; one half-sister: Mary Brown of Milwaukee, WI; and many nieces and nephews in different states. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy: Glen Jr. Collins; and a half-sister: Frances Meacham-Chase.

Donnie had a vibrant personality who always had the ability to make anyone smile. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (801 Milwaukee St., Argyle) with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman of Argyle Lutheran Church officiating.
