Dolores McCauley, age 91 of Gratiot, WI, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Monroe Clinic Hospice Home in Monroe, WI. She was born April 1, 1930, in Mineral Point, WI, the daughter of Alvis and Gertrude (Schmit) Schaaf. Dolores graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1948 and received her teaching certificate from University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1950. She taught school at Silverthorne Rural School in Shullsburg. Dolores was united in marriage to Paul McCauley on June 23, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mineral Point. They farmed in the Shullsburg area and later bought farms in Gratiot Township where they have resided since.
Dolores is survived by 12 children: Carol (Tom) Landers of Mishawaka, IN, Pat (Becki) McCauley of Argyle, WI, Kay (Bob) Muchka of Oconomowoc, WI, Mary Lou (Terry) Pickett of South Wayne, WI, Larry (Anne) McCauley of Salisbury, MD, Beth (John) Schadewalt of New Glarus, WI, Matthew (Cathy) McCauley of Gratiot, Laura (Mike) Craze of Mequon, WI, Martha (Tom) Dillon of Apple River, IL, Tom (Melissa) McCauley of Brimfield, IL, Tim (Nancy Foster) McCauley of Alexandria, VA and Teresa (Mark) Hanson of Dane, WI; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; one sister: Lois McGraw of Dodgeville, WI, and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Paul McCauley; one son: Michael McCauley; one grandson: Mark Muchka; one brother: Ray Schaaf; and six sisters: Agnes Ley, Marjorie Conway, Joan Harding, Mary Alice Ley, Jean Kurtzweil and Marcella Stauffacher.
Dolores was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in South Wayne and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of Shullsburg Bag Ladies. Dolores loved to read, sew, crochet, and was known for her cinnamon rolls. She cherished the time she spent with her family creating memories they will all remember forever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (5685 Main St., Gratiot) with Rev. Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Friday, August 20, 2021, from 4:00PM - 7:00PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (5685 Main St., Gratiot) and from 10:00AM- 10:45 at the church on Saturday prior to the funeral mass.
