Darrell “DH” Hilliard

Darrell “DH” Hilliard, age 87, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2025.  He was born August 4, 1937, to Dean and Lydia (Arn) Hilliard in Monroe.  He grew up on a farm and graduated from Monticello High School in 1956.  Darrell married Beverly Babler on July 6, 1958 at Monticello, WI.  The couple spent many wonderful years working together on the family dairy farm and raising their children.  His sense of humor and passion for sports was known by all that knew him.  The couple especially enjoyed attending their kids and grandkids athletic events.  In 1990, Darrell and Bev moved into town, but he still went out to the farm every morning, and then in the afternoon his Ford Ranger could be seen driving the roads of Green and Lafayette counties, as he would stop in to the local “watering holes” to check his numbers on the pools and make conversation with the patrons.  Recently, he really enjoyed his morning coffee at the Jailhouse Tap and Friday night fish fry at Bullets.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bev of Monroe, and their four children:  Vickie (Scott) DeNure of Monroe, Doug (Kelly) Hilliard of Monroe, Jodi Hilliard (Jim Lukken) of Monticello, and Greg (Gaila) Hilliard of Monroe.  He is further survived by his grandchildren:  Kyle (Melissa) DeNure, Tyler (Andrea) DeNure, Mitch (Megan) DeNure, Brandon (Megan) Hilliard, Desmond Ford, Kaylynn Conway, Lexi (Hunter) Weckerly and Sydney Hilliard;  step-grandchildren: Nick Rieder and Kris Rieder.; Also his great grandchildren:  Dash, Cruz, Camden, Louie, Bryce, Nolan and Colin DeNure, Paisley Hilliard and Lydia Alt,  He is further survived by his sisters, Lavonne Kurth and Linda Kraeft, sister-in-law Carolyn Hilliard, and brothers-in-law Ron Shippy and Tom Kraeft.
