Dan Courtney 88 of Chandler, Arizona died December 15th, 2018. He was born March 12, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana and grew up in Monroe, Wisconsin. Dan was the son of Daniel D. Courtney and Anna (Rattin) Courtney. He Graduated from Monroe High School in 1948 and joined the US Army at that time. In 1950 he was recalled to the Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1958. Dan was a lifelong educator. He taught for the Evanston Illinois School district from 1958-1965. He later received his Master’s degree, as well as his PhD in early childhood education. In 1966 he married Mary Samaras of Tulsa, Oklahoma and had 2 sons. During his retirement years he and Mary traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada, and Europe.
He enjoyed sailing, swimming, singing, reading, and family activities. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of 52 years, his son Daniel Mark (wife Angi), his son Christopher Sean (wife Jenny) and 4 granddaughters Katie, Lauren, Riley, and Taylor. He sailed the seas of life, embraced the best of each day and every sunset, and will live in our memories forever.
