Clayt B. Sowl

Clayt B. Sowl, age 61, of Albany, Wisconsin passed away on January 9, 2019 at University Hospital in Madison. He was born on September 14, 1957 to Clement “Ole” and Mary (Rendall) Sowl. A lifelong member of the Albany community, he graduated from Albany High School in 1975 and soon after opened Clayt’s Corner Bar.

Clayt and his wife, Wendy, were married in 2012. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, and simply being together at home. In his spare time, Clayt loved to golf with his friends, had been an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and was also involved with shooting trap at Brooklyn Sportman’s Club, along with his wife, Wendy.

Clayt owned and operated “Clayt’s” for 41 years until his retirement in 2017. A natural storyteller, Clayt loved being surrounded by people. He befriended many of his patrons and employees over the years and always got a kick out of pulling their legs with one of his stories whenever he got the chance. Clayt was always willing to help anyone a little down on their luck and made a difference in the lives of many. He believed in supporting his community and sponsored countless bowling, softball, pool, trap, and darts teams as well as youth leagues and any community function.

Clayt leaves behind his wife, Wendy; brother, Scott Sowl; brother-in-law, Glenn Holtsapple; nieces, Jessica and Crystal Holtsapple; and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carson Sowl; his sister, Margaret Holtsapple; and his aunt, Jessie Rendall. Clayt made a lasting impression on anyone who met him; he will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Albany Lion’s Club with Pastor David Pluss officiating.
