Betty F. Shultz, age 99, a lifelong resident of Monroe, died peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home for the past 11 years. Betty had previously resided at 726 24th Ave. in Monroe for over sixty years.

Betty was born on August 1, 1921 at the Deaconess hospital in Monroe. She was the youngest daughter of Fred David and Ida Bessie (Greaves) Zimmerman. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1938.

Betty met Russel H. Shultz while she was employed as a chief operator at the Monroe Telephone Company. They were married at the parsonage of the Immanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church, by Rev. Alvin C. Rabehl on December 10, 1944. After the death of her husband in June of 1966, she was employed as the receptionist for The Swiss Colony, Inc. later she retired from the First National Bank of Monroe.

She was an active member of her church, teaching Sunday School for many years, serving on numerous church committees and a lifelong member of her church circle. She also was active in Girl Scouting, a volunteer at St. Clare Hospital Surgical waiting desk, The Monroe Bloodmobile, and the Monroe Historical Society.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Mary L. (Stephen T.) Dowden of Olathe, KS, and Carol A. (Charles F. Jr.) Ingold of Monroe, WI. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Emily R. Dowden of Olathe, KS, Dr. Melissa M. Dowden (Nick) Kelly of Hinsdale, IL, Elizabeth A. Dowden (Chris) Armstrong of Colorado Springs, CO, Mark R. Ingold (Christina) of Austin, TX, and Michael C. Ingold of Belleville, WI. Her Great-Grandchildren are Hayden and Harper Armstrong, Brooklyn and Savanna Kelly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1955 and her mother in 1974, her husband in 1966 and her sister, Phyllis L. (Zimmerman) Elmer in 1995.

A Private family graveside service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a memorial to the United Methodist Church in Monroe or Pleasant View Nursing Home. SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home is assisting the family.
