Belva A. Leverton, age 89, of Monroe, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at SSM Monroe Hospital. Belva was born on August 24, 1934 in Palmyra, Wisconsin, the daughter of John P. and Francis (Benkert) Hauser. She was a 1952 graduate of Monroe High School and was united in marriage to Laurence L. Leverton on June 8, 1952 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe. Belva was a dedicated school bus driver in the Monroe district for many years. She was a devout and long standing member of the Christian congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was an avid reader, enjoyed needlework (especially embroidery and sewing), but most of all she loved her large family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who participated in many activities with her grandchildren, especially fishing and swimming.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Laurence Leverton of Monroe; five children, Deborah (Bob) Carpenter of Monroe, Cindy (John) Thompson of Juda, Ann (David) Siegel, Cheryl (Ernie) Jones, Kevin Leverton, all of Monroe; 15 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; her sister, Joan Neuenschwander of Monroe; many nieces and nephews; and a spoiled brat, her dog, Riely. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; four sisters; and a great grandson, Blake.

A celebration of Belva’s life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, N3073 Highway 59, Monroe. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, at a later date. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
