MONROE - A grand re-opening of the Green County YMCA's Aquatic Center was held Dec. 16, along with a community Open House, to celebrate the new filter system in their pool that reduces the need for chlorine at the Y.
The new UV filter works like sunlight, eliminating bacteria, germs, and algae. The Y pool now has 75 percent reduced chemicals.
The Y will launch a capital campaign to pay for this project, along with help from Colony Brands. John Baumann, president of Colony Brands, issued a challenge for the Y to pay off any loans, along with implementing other facility improvements, with a $400,000 matching grant if the Y is able to raise $200,000 by April 30.
