MONROE - The decision to hire a candidate for Monroe Wastewater Treatment Plant supervisor goes before the Common Council next week.

The Monroe Salary and Personnel Committee Tuesday unanimously recommended George Thompson, an engineer from Verona, to fill the position. The committee's recommendation will be voted on at the April 18 council meeting.

If the council approves the recommendation, Thompson will start his new position June 3.

His salary is $67,000, according to Monroe City Clerk Carol Stamm.

Thompson is well-qualified for the job, Stamm said.

He will replace Jerry Ellefson, who retired as supervisor Dec. 27 after 40 years with the department.

Thompson will report to Monroe Director of Public Works Kelly Finkenbinder.

In December, the council placed the department, along with the city's other utility and public works departments, under Finkenbinder's supervision.
