Wreck leaves trash heap

Times photo: Tere Dunlap An overturned garbage truck threw trash 15 yards across Wisconsin 104 Thursday afternoon, forcing the Green County Sheriffs Department to shut down the highway until 6:30 p.m. It took about an hour for the truck to be uprighted and trash to be cleared.
ALBANY - A garbage truck overturned around 2:10 p.m. Thursday on Wisconsin 104 between Wis. 59 and English Settlement Road, north of Albany.

According to Green County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Gilbert, Charles Mastaler, 35, Milton, was southbound when he lost control of the truck. The truck slid sideways and overturned, ending up on its passenger side partially in the east ditch.

Mastaler had non life-threatening injuries to his left shoulder. He was treated at the scene by Albany EMS but refused medical transport.

Albany Fire Department was also on scene.

Deputy Steve Hoesly said the truck is owned by Veolia Environmental Services of Fort Atkinson. The truck received extensive damage.

The accident left trash spewed for about 15 yards over the highway. Wis. 104 was closed and traffic diverted.

It took about an hour for two wreckers to upright the truck and crews to remove the trash from the roadway in county trucks. The garbage truck was towed from the scene.

Green County Highway Patrol Superintendent Dick Marty said Wis.104 was reopened around 6:30 p.m.
