TOWN OF HAZEL GREEN - A former Shullsburg woman is wanted on multiple charges after police say she crashed into a pickup truck March 24 in Grant County, injuring two people, and then drove off in another driver's vehicle when the driver stopped and got out to check on the accident scene.
Krista Lee Hemple-Anderson, 51, now of Dubuque, faces tentative charges of knowingly operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license causing great bodily harm, causing great bodily injury by reckless driving, hit-and-run causing injury to an attended or occupied vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.
According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, Hemple-Anderson was speeding westbound on Wisconsin 11 in the town of Hazel Green at about 8:25 p.m. when she tried to pass a 2016 Dodge Journey driven by Annette J. Story, 39, Scales Mound, Illinois, on the right side of the road. Hemple-Anderson's car then entered the north ditch and crashed into a pickup truck and trailer owned by David R. Roth, 55, Hazel Green, who was backing into a driveway.
The force of the collision unhooked the trailer from Roth's truck, which in turn hit a parked car, according to the sheriff's office.
Hemple-Anderson's passenger, Terrance Gross, 55, Dubuque, was taken by Hazel Green EMS to Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois. Roth was also injured.
After the crash, Hemple-Anderson reportedly got out of her car and into the passenger seat of Story's Dodge SUV. When Story got out to check on the crash, Hemple-Anderson moved over to the driver's seat and drove off in the SUV on Wis. 11 toward Dubuque.
Dubuque police found the SUV abandoned in an alleyway.
Wisconsin state court records show Temple-Anderson has been convicted in the past of a traffic-related crime and has other criminal cases pending against her. In 2016 in Dane County, she pleaded guilty to a Class I felony charge of eluding or fleeing a police officer in a vehicle and was sentenced to five months in jail, to run concurrent to an Iowa state prison sentence.
Hemple-Anderson currently faces Lafayette County charges of driving without a valid driver's license (second offense within three years), possessing cocaine and possessing drug paraphernalia, for an incident Jan. 9. She is also charged with driving with a detectable amount of a restricted controlled substance in her blood on Jan. 9.
In addition, she faces Rock County charges of felony retail theft as a party to a crime. Reporting by the Janesville Gazette indicated she and Samuel Akins Jr., 46, Dubuque, were arrested for working together to steal coats and other clothing from the Kohl's department store in the Janesville Mall Nov. 12. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest after she failed to appear in court March 15, according to court records. Akins also has a warrant for his arrest.
