Wittwer running for Wisconsin Senate seat

HILLPOINT - Ernie Wittwer, Democratic candidate for the 17th Senate District, filed nomination papers Wednesday with the Government Accountability Board.

The 17th District encompasses much of southwest Wisconsin, including all or parts of Juneau, Monroe, Sauk, Richland, Iowa, Lafayette, Grant and Green counties.

Wittwer's name will appear on the ballot for the primary Aug. 12.

Before his retirement, Wittwer worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for 24 years in management positions under the Earl and Thompson administrations. He has experience with the legislative process.

After leaving WisDOT, Wittwer spent 13 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, five of which was as the director of the Wisconsin Transportation Center.

Wittwer and his wife Rita have lived in the Town of Willow in Richland County for the past 14 years.
