Wis. Act 377 in full effect in 2015

MONROE - Wisconsin Act 377 goes into full effect in 2015 and will impact farmers who operate implements of husbandry, agriculture commercial vehicles and farm equipment on all state, county and township roads. The new law and the permitting process it has created is complicated and includes many new definitions and requirements for implements of husbandry to operate on roadways.

To help farmers and custom operators to navigate through the new requirements, University of Wisconsin-Extension is hosting an informational meeting to explain all the new weight, length and lighting regulations for implements of husbandry. The regional meeting will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Green County Justice Center, 2841 6th St.

Any farmer or custom operator who will be operating large farm equipment on roadways in Green County in 2015 should plan to attend this meeting.

Lt. Mike Klingenberg, Wisconsin State Patrol, will be on the program to explain the new regulations and permitting process. Cheryl Skjolaas, UW-Extension farm safety specialist, will also be on hand to demonstrate how to fill out the new permit forms and discuss the new IoH lighting requirements that go into effect in November 2015.

As part of this new law, all counties and towns have been required to determine the type of permitting process they will use for their roads in 2015. Jeff Wunschel, Green County highway commissioner, will be on the program to explain the new permitting process and rules for implements of husbandry for Green County and each township.

Implements of Husbandry and Agricultural Commercial Motor Vehicles exceeding the new weight and length limits will be required to get permits from the state, county and towns for the roads they will travel on. The permits must be obtained from the maintaining authority (municipality, town, county, state) of the roads to be operated upon. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has created the permit application, which will be used by all maintaining road authorities that require a permit to operate over the new weight and length limits. The new no-fee permit is now available on the WisDOT website, www.AgVehicles.DOT.wi.gov.

The meeting is especially designed for custom farm operators or farmers in Green, Rock, Lafayette and Stephenson counties who will be traveling on roads in Green County with Ag Commercial Vehicles or Implement of Husbandry.
