MONROE - Wisconsin 69 near the railroad tracks in Monroe will be closed for about a week starting Monday so crossing barriers can be removed and concrete by the tracks can be fixed, Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said.

Kelley said there were plans to fix the area near the railroad tracks on Wis. 69 for a while now, and the Department of Transportation can "kill a couple birds with two stones," by taking out the old barriers along the tracks as well.

"They said the concrete by the tracks was buckling, and I guess a lot of traffic goes over that and trains, too," Kelley said.

Construction is expected to last a week and detours are in place to avoid construction. Northbound vehicles will detour at 21st Street heading west to 4th Avenue West, then north to 17th Street and back to Wis. 69. Southbound vehicles will detour on 11th Street to 4th Avenue West, and then south to 21st Street, then east to Wis. 69.
