MONROE - A resurgence of unseasonable weather Thursday morning downed trees and power lines but otherwise caused little harm.

The bout of freezing rain and high winds snapped a power pole on County C in the Town of Monticello and felled trees near Argyle and Brodhead but did not adversely affect road conditions.

Monroe Police chief Fred Kelley said there was not an abnormal amount of traffic accidents reported during the day despite the abnormal late-March weather.

Kelley said the ambient pavement temperature had remained high enough through the early afternoon to prevent significant ice buildup on the roads.

Pamela Young, the Green County Sheriff's legal assistant, said last week's high winds caused more accidents than Thursday's sleet.

Some roads became more slippery as temperatures dropped later in the day.
