Winter offers one-two punch to area

Traffic along Wisconsin 11 was a little slower Tuesday due to dense fog. The National Weather Service issued a dense fog alert Tuesday as temperatures reached the mid-30s.
MONROE - Monday and Tuesday's weather offered a little bit of everything - snow, freezing drizzle, warm temperatures and dense fog.

About 4 inches of snow fell in Monroe between Monday and Tuesday, according to the Monroe Wastewater Treatment plant.

The snow and slippery road conditions made driving difficult for motorists. High winds also kept visibility down and roads icy into Tuesday morning.

Sheriff's departments in Green and Lafayette counties reported numerous slide-offs and vehicles in ditches. However, no serious injuries were reported.

Area students were able to spend a couple extra hours at home Tuesday - schools throughout the area were delayed by two hours due to the weather. Motorists also had to slow down during Tuesday night's commute due to foggy conditions and lingering slush and ice on rural roads. As temperatures rose Tuesday, a dense fog advisory was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). Another winter storm could hit the region early Christmas Eve. For the next three days, the NWS forecast calls for temperatures in the high 20s to the low 30s, with a 40 percent chance of snow Thursday night and Friday morning. The forecast for Christmas Day calls for a high in the low 20s.
