MONROE - Monroe Art Center hosts the new gallery exhibit "Winter Bloom" on display from Friday, Jan. 31 through Friday, March 14 in the Frehner Gallery, 1315 11th St. The exhibit showcases the bold, brightly-colored floral paintings by Brodhead artist, Patricia Troyer.
Troyer's oil and acrylic paintings tend to focus on the beauty found in nature. In this exhibit she uses her love of flowers and visual rhythm as the primary subject matter.
"The visual rhythm in our natural world is something I attempt to capture in my compositions," said Troyer. "A detailed and organized left brain dictates that I paint flowers exactly as they look, but the equally powerful right brain also needs to be creative."
The end result from this approach has led to her the invention of a "cubist" style of painting.
Troyer has exhibited artwork the past three years at the Brodhead Wildflower Art Show. She has also shown her work at the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople's Winterfest, 14 South Winter Show, and in juried art shows throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois. She holds an art education degree from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a bachelor of science degree in Comprehensive Art from Illinois State University. She was the art instructor at Brodhead Middle School from 1981 to 2008. Since 1979, she has co-owned and operated Sugar River Pottery, Brodhead.
An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 in MAC Frehner Gallery. A brief artist gallery talk will begin at 5:30 p.m. The free event is open to the public.
The exhibit has been made possible by MAC Corporate underwriter Colony Brands, Inc., and Season Media underwriters Monroe Publishing, LLC and Big Radio, with additional support from Michael and Shelley Muranyi, Kevin and Chris Callahan, Lee and Chris Knuteson, and an anonymous donor.
