MONROE - Eric Wild has won the Ward 4 seat of the Monroe Common Council by a draw of his name.
Carol Stamm, city clerk, contacted Wild about his win, but he had not officially accepted the office as of 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Following the Municipal Board of Canvassers meeting Monday morning, Stamm said two write-in names tied for the Ward 4 position: Jerry Guth and Eric Wild each received two votes. Wild's name was drawn from a hat to win the election.
Canvassers met at 9 a.m. Monday to double check the votes cast Tuesday and all absentee ballots.
Contenders for the position have three days to request a recount, which Stamm does not expect to happen. Stamm said this is the first she has seen write-in votes produce a tie in her 15 years with the city.
