MONROE - A Stoughton man was sentenced earlier this month to three years on probation for a sexual relationship he pressured an underage girl into in 2016.
Gage Milton White, 19, pleaded guilty March 8 to fourth-degree sexual assault, battery and two counts of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. As part of a plea deal, felony charges of second-degree sexual assault of a child, using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, repeated sexual assault of a child and exposing a child to harmful material were dismissed.
Conditions of White's probation include completing sex offender treatment and a "criminal thinking course" and having no contact with the victim, her residence or anyone under the age of 18. He is also ordered to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry for three years.
If he successfully completes probation, he's eligible to have the convictions expunged from his record under a state law that grants leniency to young offenders.
According to court records:
White and the 15-year-old girl met on the social media site Instagram, then met in person at her home in October 2016.
Her parents talked to White about their age difference, but White assured them he and the girl "were just dating and nothing more."
That same day, the first time the two met in person, the girl told him she was worried he would "just use her for sex and nothing more," a police report stated. White responded that he wanted a relationship but expected sex if they were going to be in a relationship.
In an interview with police, White admitted to knowing the girl's age before meeting her.
The girl's mother told a Green County investigator that White visited about two to four times every week.
The girl told police each visit involved sexual contact until the end of April 2017, when her mother found a pregnancy test kit in her daughter's room and confronted her about the sexual nature of the relationship.
For the duration of their relationship, White frequently pressured the girl and tried to control her behavior.
He called her place of employment repeatedly to check on her, directed her not to talk to other males, including her teachers, and tried to dictate what she wore to school. One of her friends told police White spent a month pressuring the girl to have sex with both him and one of his friends at a residence in Stoughton.
A restraining order was filed against White in June in Green County.
On April 24, "Mr. White was notified to discontinue contact but contact has continued up to two weeks ago," court records state.
In response to the petition, Green County Judge Thomas Vale granted an order of protection until 2021.
