MONROE - The City of Monroe Streets and Sanitation department is reminding citizens of its various services and the regulations for them.

Bulky waste

"Bulky waste" is the term used to designate any solid waste, which due to its composition, weight or bulk, cannot be effectively collected and transported. This includes furniture, appliances, furnaces, toilets, carpeting and swing sets. These items can be picked up at any time of the year. City hall or the street department will have forms to fill out, explaining what the item is and then it will be picked up on the next normal trash collection day. A bulky waste sticker must be purchased and affix it to the item for pickup. The cost of a bulky waste sticker varies according to the item.

The prices for the most common items are:

• Refrigerators or freezers, $50 each

• Air conditioning units, $40 each

• Dehumidifiers, $35 each

• Washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, boilers, furnaces, dishwashers, $20 each

• Tires, $5 each

• Household furniture and fixtures, including carpeting, toilets and sinks, $10 each

• Swing sets, poles, $20 each

• Lumber, plasterboard, $20 per cubic yard

Bulky waste items will not be picked up at the curb without a sticker issued and paid for at City Hall or the street department. For more information contact City Hall at 329-2500 or the street department at 608-329-2490.

Items may also be taken directly to the Green County Landfill. For information, call 608-897-8605.
