MONROE - One of Walgreens' newest stores will open Thursday in Monroe.
The store, located at 717 8th Ave., opens at 8 a.m. Thursday under the management of Michael Stade.
Walgreens District Manager Terry Harper selected Stade, a Janesville resident, to be Monroe's store manager.
"I want to give the city of Monroe the best Walgreens I can give it," Stade said.
Stade has been with Walgreens since 2000. He was a manager in the Walgreens store on Mineral Point Road in Madison for two years, and recently In Janesville.
"I think this store is going to take off," Stade said. "The community seems to be excited about it."
Stade said he likes Monroe's small-town feel.
"It's different than Janesville, which has about 60,000 people. I've never been part of a town with a town square before," he said. "I've been driving around for a couple of weeks checking out the area."
Stade has been reacquainting himself with Monroe. His father, Michael Stade, and grandfather, Bill Stade, work at Equity Co-op Livestock Sales.
"I've been coming here since I was a little kid," Stade said.
He has been hiring for the Monroe store and expects to employ about 20 to 25 people.
"They're from all over - Janesville, Monroe, Browntown," Stade said about the employess. "One of my assistants is looking to move to Monroe, so there will be a local presence here."
Store hours will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
