Waelti to speak on the American economy

ARGYLE - In cooperation with Lafayette County's recognition of Smart Money Month, the Argyle Public Library will present "The Status of the American Economy" by economist and The Monroe Times columnist John Waelti.

Waelti will speak at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Argyle library, bringing his extensive economic knowledge to discuss the economic state from the Great Recession to now. He will cover key indicators, recovery, existing economic recovery, thoughts about future trends and more.

Waelti was born and raised on a dairy farm in Monroe. He was on the agricultural economics faculty of the University of Minnesota from 1967-90, and then took leave to serve as Economic Advisor to Assistant Secretary of the Army in the District of Columbia. He also served as a visiting professor to the University of Nairobi in Kenya and as head of the Department of Agricultural Economics in New Mexico State University and Sultan Qaboos University in Oman.
