Volunteer bakers needed to bring coffee cakes for breakfast

MONROE - The Green County Breakfast on the Farm is coming up on May 29 at the Alan and Yvonne DeVoe farm, N266 Twin Grove Road, Monroe. There is a need for homemade coffee cakes.

The following recipe should be used:

Dairy Breakfast Coffee Cake

1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup dairy sour cream

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

Topping:

3/4 cup sugar

1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Use 9x13-inch buttered pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine topping ingredients n small bowl; set aside. Cream butter and sugar until well mixed; beat in eggs and vanilla. Add sour cream. Add the dry ingredients which have been sifted together; mix until blended. Spread half of the batter in the pan and sprinkle with half of the topping. Spoon remaining batter over the topping and sprinkle the remaining topping on top of batter. Bake 40 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched with finger.

To bring to breakfast: Place cake on a foil covered 9x13- inch cardboard.

People donating coffee cakes to the Breakfast may drop off the cakes by noon on Friday, May 28, at any of the following places:

• Green County Extension Office at the Justice Center in Monroe;

• Monticello Village Hall;

• New Glarus Home;

• Leah Pawlisch in Brodhead;

• Riverview Apartments in Albany.
