NEW GLARUS TOWNSHIP - The two men who died when their vehicles crashed head-on near New Glarus Thursday afternoon, June 20, have been identified.
David L. Bridgeland, 23, Monroe, was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry southbound on Wisconsin 69 when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a northbound 2012 Ford transit van, according to a news release Friday morning from Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud.
The driver of the van was Joshua A. Langkamp, 32, Dodgeville. Both men were the lone occupants in each vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened at about 2:10 p.m. on a straight section of Wis. 69, about four-fifths of a mile south of Exeter Crossing Road.
"Multiple witnesses reported that Bridgeland's vehicle had been swerving over the centerline prior to the crash," Skatrud said.
Autopsies and toxicology tests Friday morning will determine if alcohol, controlled substances or possible medical issues were contributing factors in the crash. Results likely won't be available for several weeks, Skatrud said.
Wis. 69 was closed several hours and traffic rerouted while workers cleaned up the crash. The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting an accident reconstruction.
Assisting deputies at the scene and with traffic control were New Glarus Fire and EMS, Monticello Fire and Police and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
