MONROE - Doors, landscaping, financing, heating, electrical work and more were available Saturday and Sunday at the South West Wisconsin Home Builders Association Home Show.
More than 40 vendors filled the Ludlow Mansion to answer questions and show off products.
For people who wanted to learn how to finance a home, bankers were available.
For someone who wanted to learn about heating homes more efficiently, heating experts and window and door vendors were on hand.
For people who wanted to find out ways to remodel their homes, electricians and remodeling experts provided some suggestions and advice.
It was a place to be for people who had questions about almost anything associated with home building, home remodeling or home improvements and it offered local businesses a chance to show off a little, too.
Doug Zettle, owner of Zettle Heating and Air Conditioning in Brodhead, explained to people throughout the day which furnaces were more energy efficient and ways to save money during the winter.
Zettle was so busy, he said, that he hardly had time to finish his lunch.
Zettle said more and more people are looking for ways to heat their homes in ways that will save them money and he enjoyed talking to them about new systems that can do just that.
"People are looking for alternative ways to heat their homes and they're looking at environmentally friendly ways, too," he said.
Guy Calkins, owner of Guy's Home Improvement in Monroe, said people generally notice drafts and air leaks at this time.
"You don't notice them so much in the summer," he joked.
He was busy talking to people who wanted to look at door and window replacements.
"We've had lots of people stop by today," he said. "They're seeing that windows and doors are more efficient now than they used to be."
Home remodeling was a popular stop, Billy Bearer, owner of Handyman Services in Monroe, said.
"I think more people are interested in improving the homes they have instead of building," he said. "They want to be able to fix up their homes rather than looking at something new."
For Kate Rimington, Orangeville, the idea of home improvements was the reason she attended the home show.
"We have a house that we've been fixing up for a couple of years," she said. "I wanted to look at some of the displays and get some ideas."
Phil Tackett, Monroe, had the same thought when he came out to the home show.
"I wanted to look at some windows and get some ideas," he said.
His son, Sam, 7, had some different ideas.
"I like the candy," he laughed.
