MONTICELLO - The family of a Milton man missing since Wednesday afternoon has renewed hope after two credible sightings of the man's vehicle in the area Thursday afternoon.

Allen Brown, 80, was last seen at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Monticello. He had driven there to meet a friend for lunch and a game of pool at a local tavern. He parted company with the friend at about 1:30 and was expected to return home. When he didn't arrive home by 2:30 p.m., his wife Ginnie contacted the friend to ensure her husband had arrived in Monticello; she contacted police when he still hadn't returned home by 3 p.m.

His daughter Connie Brown said Milton police notified the family this morning that his vehicle was sighted at about 3 p.m. Thursday on the south side of Janesville, and again at about 4:30 p.m. on Wisconsin 69, heading south in the Monroe area.

She said both vehicle sightings were described as "credible."

Recent subzero temperatures and dangerous wind chills have compounded the family's concerns about Allen Brown's safety.

"My understanding is that one of the sightings did fit the description of my father," she said. "We now have a little glimmer of hope" that he will be found alive.

Allen Brown is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 173 pounds, is bald and has blue eyes. He drives a 2013 white Ford Explorer with Wisconsin vanity plates 60YRS, a nod to his recent 60th wedding anniversary.

Because of the proximity to the stateline, Illinois State Police have been notified and the search broadened into that state, Connie Brown said.

She said there has been no activity on the two credit cards her father carries, but he did have some cash on him when he left home Wednesday morning.

Police are not speculating on what might have happened to her father, she said. He has some mobility issues, but does not have a history of dementia or other health concerns.

He does take high blood medication; he took his medication Wednesday morning, but has not taken it since. "We're told not taking high blood medication can lead to confusion," Connie Brown said.

Anyone who spots Allen Brown or his vehicle should contact the Milton Police Department at 608-868-6910. Officer Martin and Officer Fox are assigned to the case, Connie Brown said.
