MONROE - Monroe Middle School Principal Bill Van Meer has resigned.

School board President Scott Schmidt confirmed Friday that Van Meer resigned this week. The board is scheduled to formally accept Van Meer's resignation during its meeting Monday, he said.

The meeting agenda includes an item to approve the Monroe Middle School principal contract. Schmidt said he was not aware of that agenda item: The position has not been posted and there have no candidates interviewed for the job.

Neither Van Meer nor Superintendent Larry Brown could not be reached for comment Friday.

The school board also is scheduled to approve a contract for a new prinicipal at Parkside Elementary School. Earlier this week, the district offered the position to Eric Huinker, an elementary school principal in Norway, Iowa. Brown said Wednesday the board likely will formally approve hiring Huinker on Monday, provided Huinker accepts the contract.

Huinker will replace Jim Brunette as Parkside principal. Brunette, who has been principal at the school since 1986, announced in January he will retire at the end of the school year.
