TOWN OF BELMONT — A utility terrain vehicle accident in Lafayette County late Saturday, Aug. 29, killed a 14-year-old and seriously injured his 16-year-old passenger.

Jordan G. Beesecker, 14, Darlington, had already died by the time first responders arrived, according to a release from the Layette County Sheriff's Office.

Mikayla M. Stephens, 16, Darlington, was seriously injured and trapped under the UTV. She was freed by Belmont firefighters and airlifted from the scene by MedFlight to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

The accident happened on rural private property just west of Belmont Mound State Park.

Deputies, the Belmont Fire Department, Belmont EMS and Southwest Health EMS were dispatched at 11:09 p.m. to 18848 County G, Town of Belmont.

An investigation found Beesecker was driving the 2013 Can-Am Commander UTV in a pasture when he appears to have lost control. The vehicle overturned, ejecting both him and Stephens. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

Wardens with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded and took over the investigation of the crash with the assistance of Lafayette County deputies.
