NEW GLARUS TOWNSHIP - Two male drivers died in a head-on collision on Wisconsin 69 near New Glarus Thursday afternoon, June 20.
The men's names and ages are being withheld until their relatives have been notified.
The accident happened at about 2:10 p.m. on a straight section of Wis. 69, about four-fifths of a mile south of Exeter Crossing Road in New Glarus Township, according to a news release from Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud.
Initial investigation indicates a southbound car crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound van. The drivers were the lone occupants in each vehicle.
The coroner pronounced them dead at the scene. Their vehicles were heavily damaged.
Wis. 69 was closed several hours and traffic rerouted. The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting an accident reconstruction.
"Other than operating left of center, deputies are attempting to determine if there were other factors that contributed to the crash," Skatrud said.
Assisting deputies at the scene and with traffic control were New Glarus Fire and EMS, Monticello Fire and Police and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
