MONROE - A Janesville man accused of sending sexually explicit photos to a teenage girl had two charges reduced in Green County Circuit Court Wednesday.
Brian Schmoldt, 50, had two Class I felony charges of exposing a child to harmful material reduced to two Class B misdemeanor charges of unlawful use of a computerized communication system.
Schmoldt still faces two other charges of exposing a child to harmful material and a Class H felony charge of causing a child to view a sex act.
Schmoldt stood mute on the new charges. Rock County Judge James P. Daley entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The previous charges carried a maximum possible sentence of 18 months imprisonment or a $10,000 fine. The maximum sentence for the new charges is still 18 months imprisonment, but only a $1,000 fine.
The charges stem from an incident in late April of 2015, when he used the photo-sharing smartphone app Snapchat to send nude photos of himself to a New Glarus girl. The photos, which the victim saved for the police, depicted Schmoldt engaging in sex acts by himself.
Schmoldt will next appear in court on May 18 for his final pre-trial conference. His trial will take place from June 13-15.
