ORANGEVILLE, Ill. - Two people have died following a multiple shooting Sunday in what Stephenson County Sheriff David Snyders called a murder-suicide.

Annette J. Scott, 50, died of multiple gun shot wounds following a double shooting at about 10:28 a.m. at 220 Hancock Drive, Sunday, and William J. Scott, 58, died after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, which took place at his residence. Both died Sunday night.

A third victim, Rollin E. Dunham II, 52, Orangeville, was still hospitalized at Freeport Health Network Hospital, Monday.

Initially, the Stephenson County Sheriff's Department responded to a report that two people were shot at about 10:28 a.m. Sunday, at 220 Hancock Drive.

When deputies arrived, they found Annette Scott and Dunham were shot multiple times. Dunham's two daughters and Annette Scott's son were also in the residence and had witnessed the shooting, according to a sheriff's report Monday. Snyders didn't provide exact ages for the children but said they were between the ages of about 8 and 10.

All identified William Scott, Annette Scott's ex-husband, as the shooter, the sheriff's department said.

Snyders said there was a history of domestic violence, and there was an order of protection against William Scott.

William Scott was later found suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in the living room area at his residence, 405 Bostian Court, Orangeville, which is visible from the first crime scene.

He was pronounced dead at the Freeport Health Network Hospital.

Annette Scott was transported to Saint Anthony Hospital, Rockford, Ill., where she later died.

Snyders identified the weapon as a 45 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

According to Stephenson County Sheriff's reports, William Scott was seen driving a black truck north toward his home, following the shootings. Sheriff's deputies then secured the residence.

After obtaining a search warrant, members of the Stephenson County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team and Freeport Police Emergency Response Team entered the home at about 2:48 p.m. to discover Scott had shot himself in the head.

The Stephenson County Sheriff's office was assisted by the Orangeville, Freeport and Rockford police departments, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, the Stephenson County Sheriff's Reserve Unit and the Law Enforcement Aviation Coalition.
