BRODHEAD - Brett and Vickie Condon live on a farm that has been in their family for generations.
The couple, who live on "Morningstar Farm," located at 4737 County T, operate an organic farm on property that used to be part of a 500-acre dairy farm.
Brett Condon said he and his wife decided organic farming was the way to go when deciding what to do with their farm.
"Organic farming is becoming more and more popular," he said.
Throughout the spring, summer and fall they harvest and sell asparagus, strawberries and raspberries. They also sell a limited amount of melons, squash and corn. In the future, Condon said, they would like to sell apples and cider.
Everything on their farm is grown naturally. They don't use pesticides. The Condons use Mother Nature and hard work to grow their products.
In the summer, growing strawberries is a full-time job. They have almost three acres of strawberries they weed by hand.
In the spring, the Condons take the mulch off the strawberries and start weeding the plants.
After that, work on the strawberry patch is, Condon said, "non-stop."
Weeding the field is time consuming.
"By the time we get done, it's time to start all over again," Condon laughed.
The Condons include their three children, Israel, 17, Elisha, 15, and Abby, 12, in the process.
The hard work pays off when they take their produce to farm markets.
"People literally attack our truck when we pull in," Condon said.
The farm also attracts visitors from Janesville, Beloit, Monroe and northern Illinois.
Condon said he tries to make his farm a welcome place for families.
"We encourage people to bring their children with them," he said. "They can even bring their dogs."
The Condon farm is one of five that will be featured from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday during Tour the Farm Days in Brodhead. The event celebrates agriculture.
Other farms featured on the tour are:
