MONROE - The week of April 11-15 is "Severe Weather Awareness Week" in Wisconsin, according to Green County Emergency Management officials.

A statewide tornado drill will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 14 - with a simulated, statewide Tornado Watch issued, followed by a simulated Tornado Warning for southwestern Wisconsin from 1:20 to 1:25 p.m.

The entire drill ends at 2 p.m.

As part of the event, officials are urging families, schools and businesses to review their disaster plans and actively participate in the drill.

If there is inclement weather, the drill will be conducted on Friday, April 15, 2011.

Tornadoes and Severe Weather are guaranteed in every Wisconsin spring and summer and preparing early can save lives. In a recent survey it was found that only about 20 percent of Wisconsin families are prepared for disasters, which can strike at any time.

Emergency officials say every household should have a weather radio, and that the average cost is about $30. Green County Emergency Management offers many brochures and resources to help with emergency planning.
