Times collects industry awards

MADISON - The Monroe Times earned numerous accolades as part of the annual Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation Better Newspaper Awards contest.

The awards were announced as part of the WNAF annual convention and awards banquet Friday in Madison.

A first-place award went to Mary Jane Grenzow for design of a front page. She also took an honorable mention for environmental reporting.

Marissa Weiher placed first in the sports photo category and third in the general news and photo essay categories.

Shari Rampenthal earned a second-place award in page design for sports pages. She also earned third-place awards for headline-writing and overall page design.

Reporter Susan Endres earned a third-place award for local education coverage.

Reporter Bridget Cooke earned honorable mentions for feature writing in both the profile and non-profile categories.

Laura Hughes and Jaimie Tran were awarded a first-place Bill Payne Award for their "This April 1st, the Joke's on Us!" ad campaign.

They also took first for best niche publication for the Monroe Parks and Recreation brochure.
