MONROE - For Alissa Grenawalt, University of Wisconsin Extension 4-H and Youth Agent, being with the public is the most enjoyable aspect of her job.
"I enjoy working with the all of the kids and their families." she said.
She also appreciates the help of the many volunteers who support agriculture and 4-H clubs.
Grenawalt spent Saturday morning helping 4-H club members from across the county weigh their steers for the 2009 Green County Fair.
It's just part of her job.
For the past seven years, she's been involved with the fair and 4-H clubs in the county. She also helps judge livestock and takes part in other youth activities.
Recently she won the Farm Bureau's Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture Award at a ceremony in the Wisconsin Dells.
It was an honor, she said of the award. "It was pretty exciting."
The Excellence in Agriculture winner is selected based on leadership, involvement in Farm Bureau and the local community, and understanding of current issues affecting agriculture.
Grenawalt will compete Jan. 11 in the national Excellence in Agriculture contest at the American Farm Bureau Federation's 90th annual meeting in San Antonio.
Grenawalt also will be guest of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation at next year's WFBF Young Farmer Conference to be held Dec. 4-6 in the Wisconsin Dells.
