MONROE - A little over a week after wrapping up the country's hottest year on record, temperatures rose in the area to near record highs.
The high temperature today is expected to reach 48 degrees, which is 21 degrees above normal and close to the record high (53 degrees in 1975).
The low is expected to be just 37 degrees tonight, which is 27 degrees above normal.
The warming trend will hang around through Saturday afternoon, with a forecasted high of 40 degrees. However, temperatures are expected to quickly dip back down to the normal range, with an overnight low of 15 degrees on Saturday and a high of just 21 on Sunday.
