MONROE - Three Minnesota teens were sentenced in Green County Circuit Court Oct. 15 after they pleaded no contest to forgery in connection with cashing stolen checks in July in Monroe.

The court entered into two-year deferred prosecution agreements with Courtney R. Kennedy, 18, Edina, Minn.; Morgan K. Azbill, 18, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Kassie M. McMahon, 17, West St. Paul, Minn.

The charges will be dismissed in two years if they comply with the terms of their agreement.

They each pleaded no contest to one count of forgery, a class H felony. They faced up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.

McMahon and Kennedy originally were charged with four counts of forgery, all class H felonies, and concealing stolen property, a class A misdemeanor. They faced more than 24 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines.

Azbill originally was charged with two counts of forgery, both class H felonies, two counts of concealing stolen property, both class A misdemeanors, and possession of marijuana, an unclassified misdemeanor. She faced up to 14 years in prison and more than $40,000 in fines.

A fourth defendant, Carson A. Caizzo, 18, Edina, Minn., pleaded no contest Oct. 3 to one count of forgery. He was given a two-year deferred prosecution agreement.

He originally was charged with two counts of forgery, both class H felonies, two counts of concealing stolen property, both class A misdemeanors, and possession of marijuana, an unclassified misdemeanor. He faced up to 14 years in prison and more than $40,000 in fines.

Court records indicate they cashed stolen checks at Kwik Trip, Dick's Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart in Monroe and also at the Swiss Aire Motel in New Glarus.

Kennedy and McMahon were arrested in Monroe and Caizzo and Azbill were arrested in New Glarus a short time later.
